2009 Red Ribbon Award: Nominations Now Accepted
The red ribbon is a global symbol in the movement to address HIV/AIDS. The newly established Red Ribbon Award has been designed to honor and celebrate personal or community initiatives that have demonstrated outstanding involvement and leadership in reducing the spread and impact of HIV/AIDS in West Virginia.
The 2009 WV Red Ribbon Award recipient or recipients will be announced during the World AIDS Day commemoration in Charleston. The event begins at 6:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church (501 Elizabeth Street) and ends with a candlelight processional to the Living AIDS Memorial Garden. Download event flyer here.
Nominations of individuals or organizations/institutions (including governmental) that have shown outstanding achievement in our collective response to the AIDS pandemic. Nominees may be living or deceased. The Charleston World AIDS Day Steering Committee will select this year’s winner from the entries received.
Examples of nominee types include, but are not limited to:
- Health care providers
- Social workers
- Activists
- Organizations working in HIV prevention and communication
- Organizations working with vulnerable groups
- Organizations providing access to care and support for people living with HIV
- Organizations working with young people in area of HIV/AIDS
- Private sector entities intentionally promoting and implementing HIV/AIDS workplace policy
Nominations, including nominee’s name, contact info and why they deserve recognition, may be submitted in any of the following three ways. Nominators’ name and contact info must also be included.
