Chair raffle aids Covenant House

Several decorated chairs, painted by area artists, will be raffled as part of a benefit for Covenant House. Raffle winners will be drawn at a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 19 and the proceeds from the effort will support Covenant House and its programs, which focus mostly on providing services for the homeless.

Other artists who decorated chairs were Helen Chilton, Mark Blumenstein, Jeff Pierson, Mark Tobin Moore, Susan Petryszak, Reidon Ovrebo, Peter Massing, Barrie Kaufman, Keeley Steele, and the duo of Robin Hammer and Chris Dutch.

Covenant House staff did a 12th chair featuring the logo and comments from the people who come to Covenant House.

Ticket-holders need not be present to win a chair, but those who are get first choice among available chairs.

Tickets can be purchased through Covenant House at 600 Shrewsbury St., Charleston, WV 25301. Call 344-8053. If all 400 of the $50 tickets are sold, there will be a 1-in-33 chance of winning a chair.

Ron Sowell, womanSong, Laurel Dennie and Ryan Kennedy and other performers will offer musical entertainment. Ellen's Homemade Ice Cream will provide free ice cream and there will be face painting for children.

Debby McHenry did the artistic work on this chair, one of a dozen painted by area artists and to be raffled off to benefit Covenant House.
