West Virginia to receive $1.43 Million to Provide Housing Assistance for People Living with HIV/AIDS

CHARLESTON, WV (11/30) - Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) announced today that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) will be awarding the state of West Virginia $1.43 million to provide housing assistance to the states rural population living with HIV/AIDS.

"The federal grant will help pay the housing costs for 70 to 100 households in West Virginia who have someone living with HIV/AIDS," noted Capito. "In too many cases overwhelming healthcare costs force people onto the streets because they cannot afford to pay for their housing. The grant money will be targeted to assist individuals who are in need of assistance helping them pay their housing costs while they continue to receive treatment."

"The hard work of the West Virginia Coalition for People with AIDS in applying for this grant is the reason West Virginia is being awarded these federal dollars they should be applauded for their dedication to helping West Virginians living with HIV/AIDS."

The West Virginia Coalition for people with AIDS, Inc. is made up of the Covenant House, Inc based in Charleston, WV; Community Networks based in Martinsburg, WV; and the Caritas House, Inc. based in Morgantown, WV.
